The Tanzania National Park Authority (TANAPA) is responsible for managing and conserving most of Tanzania’s national parks. The park fees are set by the Tanzanian government for all visitors. Before traveling to any national park or conservation area in Tanzania, it is important to check the applicable fees for park access.
Park fees are crucial for generating revenue to improve conservation efforts, enhance visitor experiences, maintain trails, provide recreation opportunities, and pay game rangers. The total park fees you pay depend on the route you choose, with longer routes incurring a higher daily fee of $70.
Park Entry Fees for Kilimanjaro National Park
The entry fees for Kilimanjaro National Park vary for non-residents, residents, and citizens:
- Non-resident adults: $70 per person per day.
- Non-resident children (5 to 15 years): $20 per person per day.
- Foreign resident adults: $35 per person per day.
- Foreign resident children (5 to 15 years): $10 per person per day.
- Tanzanian citizens and East African adult citizens: 10,000 Tanzanian shillings per person per day.
- East African children (5 to 15 years): 2,000 Tanzanian shillings per person per day.
Other Kilimanjaro Fees
- Fees for Mountain Biking on Kilema Route: The Kilema route is the only route on Mount Kilimanjaro that can be used by mountain bikers to reach the summit. Foreign residents and non-residents: $50 per person per day. East African citizens: 30,000 Tanzanian shillings per person per day.
- Conservation Fee for Guides and Porters: Guides and porters are required to pay a conservation fee of $2 per person per day. This fee is paid by the hikers they are accompanying.
- Rescue Fee: In addition to the entry fee, trekkers on Mount Kilimanjaro are required to pay a rescue fee of $20 per person per trip. This fee covers rescue missions organized by Kilimanjaro National Park in case of emergencies. However, it does not include helicopter evacuation if airlifting is required.
- Camping and Hut Fees: The park entry fee does not include camping or hut fees. Camping fee: $50 per person per night. Hut fee: $60 per person per night (available only on the Marangu route). Trekkers on other routes must bring their own tents for camping.
- Crater Camp Fee: Trekkers using the Lemosho route can pay an additional $100 to stay at Crater Camp for one night. This offers a unique experience and helps with acclimatization during a 9-day journey on the Lemosho route.
- Additional Expenses: In addition to the various fees for entry, camping, conservation, and rescue, trekkers should budget for other costs related to their Mount Kilimanjaro hike, including: Airline tickets, Ground transportation and Accommodation before and after the climb. It is also customary to tip guides and porters after completing the climb.
