Ndutu airstrip is a small airstrip located a short distance south of Lake Ndutu near the locality of Ndutu Ranger Post and the Sinoni Village in the southern sector of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, providing easy access to remote areas around Lake Ndutu and Masek throughout the year. This aerodrome has facilities in the form of toilets, a parking area, a small airport lounge, and a 1.22-kilometer-long aeroway, with its popular destinations in Tanzania being Dar es Salaam, Mount Kilimanjaro, Dodoma, and Arusha.
While in the plane, you will have a bird’s-eye view of the vast Tanzanian plains, gaining a deeper appreciation for the region’s incredible biodiversity, ranging from diverse landscapes and rolling hills to rugged terrain, agricultural fields, and rural settlements. Upon arrival, passengers are welcomed by the endless Savannah characterized by short yellowed grass plains dotted with acacia trees. Towards the end of the year, particularly in the month of December, you have a chance to witness the great wildebeest migration in this area, ready for the calving season where thousands of animals are born every day. Don’t miss out on seeing the births of young wildebeests and zebras. Predators are also seen around the area, waiting to hunt down and feed on the vulnerable calves.
From the airstrip, you are safely driven in an open-sided safari vehicle to your lodge, which is positioned near various accommodations ranging from luxury to mid-range, including Kimondo Migration Camp, Serengeti Heritage, Lake Ndutu Luxury Lodge, Serengeti Under Canvas, Nomad Serengeti Camp, and Ndutu Safari Lodge. Transfers from and to the Ndutu airstrip are usually included when staying at any of these lodges. Game drives are available on request and subject to availability, mainly carried out in the early morning and late evening hours, where you can witness the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), big cats like cheetah, herbivores like giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, impalas, to mention but a few. After a long trip on the game drives and walking safaris, you are treated to a chilled soft drink and a fresh meal setup, complemented by fruits or beverages, all well positioned on a wooden dining table, waiting for you.
If you prefer a flying safari package to the Ndutu area, the Ndutu airstrip is glad to receive you and has a lot in place to spice up your safari tour.
