Lamai airstrip is situated in the Serengeti’s northern region amidst the spectacular Kogakuria kopjes, giving it unbeatable views of the whole Serengeti National Park. The airstrip provides quick, convenient, and easy access to the remote areas of the park, and it is usually accessed via a 15-minute short flight from Kogatende airstrip, which offers you picture-perfect views over the Tanzanian plains and landscape.
After witnessing and appreciating nature while up in a plane, you are going to have a glimpse of beautiful land scenery from the expertly guided game drives which take place during daylight hours within the north Serengeti, and guests have access to areas both to the north and south of the Mara River depending on the water levels at the time.
From an air drive to a game drive and now to walking safaris where you will experience dramatic Rocky kopjes and rolling plains, this part of the park is characterized by riverlines and small valleys enabling close encounters with wildlife when on foot. If you are keen to view the huge herds of the great migration, the better months to visit Lamai are between July and October as immense numbers of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles push through this area during these months. In their search for food, the herbivores must face the treacherous Mara River and its resident crocodiles.
Although the wildebeest river crossings are the major viewing highlight from Lamai Serengeti, there’s also plenty of wildlife to observe at other times, mostly predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, and herbivore features like elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelopes, along with ample birdlife. So, if you are interested in the park’s feathered friends, don’t forget to pack your binoculars.
At this time, you are through with the wonderful adventure, and you are a little bit tired and wondering where you are going to have a peaceful rest. Stay assured as there are plenty of beautiful accommodations awaiting you, and they are very close to Lamai airstrip, including Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp, Serengeti Safari Camp, Serian’s Serengeti Mobile Lamai, Lemala Ndutu Camp, Lemara Mara Tented Camp, Singita Faru Faru Lodge, to mention but a few.
All rooms are open-fronted, offering uninterrupted views over the Serengeti’s sprawling plains, and each occupies a timber and thatch structure that’s nicely nestled into the Kogakuria kopjes and positioned with maximum privacy in mind. With every standard room, a wooden door leads into the spacious bedroom, and here you’ll find a double bed with mosquito net, a writing desk, a chair, and a daybed too. The lodges are very comfortable with a lot of well-cushioned seating. Dining areas include a long table for communal meals, with individual tables available too. Typically, both hot and cold options are offered at breakfast, and lunch is presented as a buffet of light meat, fish, and vegetable dishes followed by tempting desserts. Dinner is a lavish three-course meal, and each lodge has a bar too, including a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. Believe it or not, a visit to Lamai is a dream come true and a trip to always remember.
