Dutwa Plains – A Serengeti Safari Experience in the Western Corridor

Dutwa Plains are located in the tranquil western corridor of Serengeti National Park, mostly visited for the wildebeest migration. This implies that camping is one of the active ventures on this side, collecting a variety of experiences from all over the world. However, only the early birds get the warmth since there’s a limited number of spots available.

This migration involves the movement of animal species such as zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, and antelope. They trek from Serengeti to Masai Mara during the dry season, and many lose their lives during this journey. Some are feasted upon by predators that lurk along the riverbanks, while others succumb to exhaustion and hunger.

The crocodiles, with their seductive courtship techniques, also feast on these species. But ome survive and enter the Mara land, where they give birth to calves. A calf can walk a few minutes after birth and follows its mother. It’s always advised to pack sunglasses, safari hats, and lightweight earth-toned clothes when on this safari.

Keeping a distance is crucial to allow these species to cross peacefully; any hindrance may stop them from crossing. Patience may be trying, but it pays off. It takes a true migration lover to wait for these species to cross, as sometimes they come and parade at the river for days without crossing.

So, you must be alert not to miss out on the adventure.

There are also other herbivores in this region, including rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, and reptiles like snakes, turtles, and wild lizards, to name a few. Activities in this area include:

  • Game Drives: Some travelers may fear walking on foot in the field, seeing it as a dangerous activity. They prefer safari cars that drive them to the plains and rivers where they expect these species to trek, depending on the season they’ve decided to visit. Joyous game drives are done in shifts to accommodate everyone. However, during the migration, one must be at the designated area on time to witness the most crucial scenarios.
  • Camping: This activity is enjoyed by tourists as they wait for the animals to cross over. Mobile camps are often booked as they offer flexibility.
  • Bush Meals: Many guests enjoy bush meals prepared by skilled chefs, leaving them with a longing to return to this area.

Look no further than Dutwa Plains in Serengeti National Park for a tranquil migration safari.
