Best time to climb Kilimanjaro

Best Time to Climb Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and the tallest mountain in Africa, rising to an elevation of 5,895 meters above sea level.
Mount Kilimanjaro was formed as a result of volcanic activity that left it with three volcanic cones: Mawenzi, Shira, and Kibo. Mawenzi and Shira peaks are extinct, but Kibo is dormant and could erupt again, although the last eruption occurred 200,000 years ago.
About 30,000 people attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro annually, but almost half of the trekkers fail to reach the summit, mostly due to altitude sickness that can affect anyone, even if they are physically fit. To have a higher rate of a successful climb, you need to choose long routes so that your body will acclimatize to altitude.
Best Time to Climb Kilimanjaro
Temperatures on Mount Kilimanjaro vary with the seasons and also within the different climatic zones. The average temperature at the base of the mountain is around 21° to 27°C, while at the summit, temperatures can drop to -7° to -29°C. The weather can sometimes become unpredictable, so hikers need to come well-prepared for any type of weather while trekking the mountain. There are five distinct ecological zones that trekkers will experience on the climb to Kilimanjaro, starting from the cultivated zone, rainforest zone, heath or moorland zone, alpine desert zone, and arctic zone.
Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed all year round, but some months are more advantageous than others. Knowing the best time to climb Mount Kilimanjaro before booking your trek is essential for a successful trip to the summit.
December to February
December to February is the short dry season in Kilimanjaro, just after the November rains. This is the best time to visit Mount Kilimanjaro. During this time of the year, the grass is lushly green but short, making it easy for you to spot wildlife. Tourists interested in photography can visit during this time for beautiful photographs. The skies are also clear, giving you superb views at the summit.
June to September
June to September is the best overall time for visiting Mount Kilimanjaro, as it coincides with the best weather in Europe and US summer holidays. The hiking trails are in good condition during this time of the year, with little to no rainfall, especially in July and August. This is also the best time for visiting other Tanzanian national parks, so you can combine your Kilimanjaro trip with other destinations. The weather is favorable during this time of the year, providing clear and superb views throughout your trek. The only problem of visiting during this time is the mountain might be crowded and congested.
March to May and October to November
These are wet months on Kilimanjaro. The trek is possible, but you’re likely to get inconvenienced by rainfall, muddy and slippery trails, and the summit is snowy, meaning you’re not likely to get outstanding views. However, during this time, some companies intend to offer off-season rates for travelers, and this could be a good advantage for budget trekkers, and the mountain is not crowded as in the drier months.
