Day 1: Flight to Rubondo Island National Park

You begin your safari with a domestic flight transfer to Rubondo Island, either from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, or Serengeti.

Upon arrival at the airstrip in Rubondo, your island safari guide will be waiting to welcome you to the tropical island.

You will then drive to Rubondo Island Camp, which is only 20 minutes away.

Here, you will spend your nights on the island.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking / Habituation in Rubondo Island National Park

Today, you will trek the playful endangered primate species, the chimpanzees of Rubondo Island.

These chimpanzees were transferred to the island in the late 1960s from European zoos, and some were rescued from circuses.

There are two troops of chimpanzees on the island that you can trek.

In a group of 8, you will be led by an experienced guide in search of the chimpanzees.

Enjoy the experience as you journey through the lush forests of Rubondo Island National Park.

Overnight at Rubondo Island Camp.

Day 3: Explore Rubondo Island National Park

A unique safari experience in Tanzania surrounded by the fresh waters of Lake Victoria.

Rubondo Island National Park offers a variety of activities to explore the island.

Embark on a morning game drive looking out for giraffes, elephants, bushbucks, suni antelopes, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, warthogs, and more.

Return to your lodge and later in the day, go on a boat ride on the famous Lake Victoria.

Look out for crocodiles, hippos, sitatunga antelopes among the marshes, otters, and different water bird species.

Call it a day and return to your safari camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Flight to Arusha / Dar es Salaam

Enjoy your breakfast and then head out on a guided nature walk around the island, bringing you closer to nature on this pristine tropical island.

Return to your safari camp, check out, and your island safari guide will drive you to Rubondo airstrip to catch your flight transfer to Arusha / Dar es Salaam or Mwanza, marking the end of your safari.
