Detailed 11-Day Lake Victoria, Chimps & Serengeti Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Airport to Arusha Town
Pick up from Arusha/Dar es Salaam/Kilimanjaro International Airport upon arrival, and then you will be transferred to Arusha town where your safari guide will drop you at your hotel where you will spend your first night in Tanzania, East Africa.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
From Arusha, you will be driven to Tarangire National Park to start off your Tanzania wildlife safari.
Tarangire National Park is famously known as the home of huge herds of elephants that can be seen all around the park and its famous Tarangire River, the lifeline of the park.
Take a game drive to explore the beautiful park and discover its wilderness secrets.
Animals you will spot include elephants, hippos, wildebeests, zebras, lions, giraffes, and more.
Days 3-4: Serengeti National Park
From Tarangire, you will transfer to Serengeti National Park on a scenic drive through the Ngorongoro area and Karatu plains.
While in Serengeti National Park, you will explore the Seronera central region, the heart of Serengeti that always teems with a variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, giraffes, wildebeests, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, and many more.
Day 5: Transfer to Mwanza City
Morning transfer to Mwanza City located west of Serengeti National Park.
The second biggest and busiest port city in Tanzania at the shores of Lake Victoria.
You will take on a short city sightseeing drive through Mwanza on arrival as you drive to your hotel where you will spend the night.
Day 6: Transfer to Rubondo Island National Park
From Mwanza City, you will be driven to either Nkome or Kasenda village to get on a speedboat to Rubondo Island National Park.
On this day on the island park, you will go for a rewarding and thrilling boat safari on Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria, where you will encounter lots of waterbirds and see animals like hippos, otters, crocodiles, sitatungas, suni antelopes, bushbucks, giraffes, and elephants grazing on the shores.
Enjoy the scenic views as you sail along.
Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Mwanza City
Chimpanzee trekking/habituation is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Rubondo Island National Park’s dense equatorial forests.
Depending on the location of the chimpanzee group you will be trekking, in the early morning, you will need to take a boat ride to the area or go on a game drive and then get on your feet to track the great apes in their natural habitat as your experienced guide tells you all about the chimpanzees of Rubondo Island and their interesting history.
After the encounter with the chimpanzees, you will transfer back to the mainland for another night in Mwanza City.
Days 8-9: Mwanza to Serengeti National Park
After your breakfast, you set off and drive back to Serengeti National Park, exploring the Western corridor of the Serengeti past the Grumeti River as you continue all the way to the central region.
There are chances of catching the great wildebeest migration in action on your safari to Serengeti National Park if you visit the park during the months of June to September.
Activities to take on include game drives, hot air balloon safaris, walking safaris, and Maasai community visits.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Early morning transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area from Serengeti.
You will drive straight to the unbroken caldera, the Ngorongoro crater, and descend its steep walls to the floor for a great game viewing experience.
The world-famous crater is home to over 25,000 animals and over 400 bird species.
Chances of spotting the big 5; lions, leopards, black rhinos, buffalos, and elephants alongside many other animals.
You will have a lunch break at a picnic site near the famous hippo pool.
After lunch, ascend to the top of the crater and take time to take in the scenic views before you drive on to your safari camp for a night in Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Day 11: End of Safari
After your last breakfast in the wilderness, you will be transferred back to Arusha and dropped at the airport to catch your flight back home.
