This itinerary combines the best of what Somaliland has to offer with the best of what the Western part of the country has to offer. Explore the rich culture of the capital city, the agricultural towns, the mountains and the wildlife. Take an off-road drive to Ga’an libah Reserve to enjoy the mountain scenery and wildlife.
Day 1
Get picked up and transferred to your hotel
Depending on the time of your arrival, you will have the opportunity to explore Hargeisa
Once you have rested, you can go for a leisurely stroll in the center of Hargeisa
to get a feel for the locals and
the town
Day 2
Begin your day in Hargeisa with a visit to the civil war memorial and the central market. Then, you’ll visit the most significant rock art site in Africa, Laas geel. The rich colors and well-preserved stones are thought to be around 10,000 years old. Continue to Berbera, where you’ll be driven to your hotel. Here, you can relax on the beach and take a dip in the sea as the sun sets.
Day 3
After breakfast, you will visit the historical town of Berbera, particularly the old quarter of the town with many Ottoman and British architecture. After the Berbera tour, you will leave Berbera and make your way to the small mountain town of Sheikh. Driving through Sheikh Mountains will be an enjoyable experience due to the beautiful scenery and pleasant weather. At the end of the day, you will arrive in Hargeisa.
Day 4
Borama is the third largest city in the country and home to Amoud University, one of the most famous universities in the country. The road to Borama starts in Hargeisa, passing the small towns of Arabshiyo and Gebiley, which are renowned for their agricultural culture and traditional Somali culture. From there, the journey continues with a view of the city, culminating in a night stay at a hotel.
Day 5
On the way back to Hargeisa, we’ll make a pit-stop at the ancient rock painting site of Dhagax kurre, where you’ll see animal and human figures painted on various panels in a stunning landscape. Once you’re back in Hargeisa, you’ll be able to wander freely and stay the night at the hotel.
Day 6
From Hargeisa, we drive early in the morning to the mountains of Ga’an Libah, which literally means ‘Lion’s Paw’. Along the way, we’ll pass several small villages with traditional Somalian houses that are home to nomadic nomads.
At 1,720m, the Ga’an Libah Reserve is a forest with wildlife. It’s a popular spot for birdwatchers. The view from the top of the cliff is very beautiful. We’ll take a hike to see a few places on the mountains and see one of the many caves. We’ll then head back towards Hargeisa, where the tour will end.
