Somaliland declared independence from Somalia more than two decades ago, but it has yet to be recognised by the rest of the world, making it one of Africa’s least visited countries, despite the country’s historical and natural treasures being of utmost importance and interest. While this is a brief itinerary, it’s full of ideas that will leave you with indelible feelings.
Of all the beauties in Somaliland, there’s no doubt that Las Geel is one of the most impressive. This complex of caves is adorned with beautiful polychrome rock carvings dating from the Neolithic era and perfectly intact. It’s said to have been inhabited by ghosts, and they are still the only true guardians of this priceless collection of pastoral scenes and stylised figures of men and animals in distinctive iconographies. Berbera, a decadent Ottoman port town on the Red Sea-Indian Ocean border, and the bustling Hargeisa camel market (one of the biggest in the horn of Africa) are equally striking.

Embark on a journey to Laas Geel, one of Africa’s best hidden but most extraordinary and surreal rock painting sites. Spend the night at Berbera, a historic town with stunning beaches, 0ttoman and British architecture and a coastal feel.
Day 1
We pick you up from your hotel or direct from Hargeisa International Airport and take you to Hargeisa where you can visit The Livestock Market, Central Market Civil war Memorial and other famous places in the city. From Hargeisa, we take you out of town to visit Laas Geel, meaning “Camels Waterhole ”. Experts consider this one of Africa’s most important rock art sites. The colorful and well preserved paintings are thought to be around 10,000 years old. A series of Archaeological rock art shelters offer a glimpse into the history of the region. The individual paintings depict numerous animals and humans. From Laas, you can drive to Berbera, the coastal town of Berbera, where you can relax on the beach and stay the night at the beach hotel.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will take you on a tour through Berbera city. During this tour, you will get to see some of the most important sites of this historic town. The old quarter, with its many Ottoman and British architecture and Mosques, is particularly interesting. You can also enjoy the beaches and seafood restaurants in Berbera. There is also an optional boat trip with snorkeling and diving. After the tour, you will drive back to Berbera’s capital, Hargeisa, where the tour will end. Afterwards, you can either transfer to your hotel, or transfer to the airport, depending on your flight time.
