Overview
Have a wonderful time as you explore Rwanda’s only savannah National Park which is Akagera where you have a chance to spot the big five animals hence called the classic African safari. On this tour, you will take part in the hot air balloon tour, boat cruise, and game drive. The wild animals that won’t be missed are zebras, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, rhinos, buffalos, elephants, warthogs, and more.
Akagera National Park is located at the border of Rwanda and Tanzania getting its name from the Akagera River. This park was established in 1934 and now covers an area of 1,122 km2 with some parts being a savannah, swamp, and mountains.
Detailed Itinerary
Wake up early at the hotel in Kigali, Rwanda and have your breakfast which will be followed by a transfer to Akagera National Park. Arrive and immediately take an enroute game drive to the start of the hot air balloon. Meet the crew and attend a briefing about how the safari will be conducted as the basket will take you to a height of about 80m. Have an eagle-eye view (aerial view) of the surroundings. The experience will end with a glass of wine or juice.
Enjoy another game drive through the park as you head to the restaurant to enjoy your hot lunch and here meet animals like elephants, zebras, gazelles, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalos, rhinos, Masai giraffes, and many more others. Also birds like vultures, eagles, hawks, kingfishers, ibis, hornbills, and many more.
After lunch head for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, for a chance to spot water-loving animals such as crocodiles, hippos, and more. Other animals like elephants, buffalos, warthogs, and more can be on the banks quenching their thirst. After the boat cruise, you will head back to Kigali to be dropped at the airport and this will mark the end of the safari.
