5 DAYS MOROCCO TOUR ITINERARY FROM FES TO MARRAKECH.
This 5-day Morocco tour will take you from Fes, Morocco, where you will visit Switzerland of Morocco, Ifrane, and the Cedars forest, lunch in Midelt, drive along the amazing Ziz river, and then on to the Sahara desert of merzouga, where you will ride camels, stay in a luxury camp in the center of the desert, and enjoy magical sunsets and sunrises in the Sahara. You will also visit the traditional market in Rissani and the town of Erfoud with fossils. Along the way, you will visit Todra Gorges and Dades Gorges, as well as the different Kasbahs such as ait ben haddou and amridil. At the end of the tour, you will cross the high atlas mountains and the atlas pass. This tour will end in marrakech, Morocco.
Day 1
This 5-day desert tour begins with an early pickup from the airport, or your accommodation in Fes, then we drive south through Mouzzer to Ifrane, renowned for its low temperatures, snow and Alpine-style houses – no wonder it is known as “Switzerland of Morocco”. We then continue to Cedars forest where you can feed Barbary Macaques as you wander around. Later, we drive to Midelt where you will be served lunch. Then, we head to the Sahara desert, driving through Tizin and Tilghman passes, and along the Ziz river. In the afternoon, we arrive at the Sahara desert of Merzouga, where you will switch to camels and cross the sandy desert. At a stop, you will be able to enjoy a magical sunset on top of high dune, followed by a desert luxury camp where you can dance around a campfire under an open sky full of stars and listen to Berber drums. Dinner and then an overnight stay in the camp.
Day 2
One of the most important things to do in the early morning is to wake up early to appreciate the sunrise in the center of the desert, with free time for breakfast. After breakfast, you will return on Camels to the region of merzouga where the driver will be waiting for you. We will spend the whole day exploring the region of merzouga. There are so many incredible places to visit, from the sand dunes to the wild lake, mines, fossil areas and oases, which are perfect places for all kinds of outdoor activities. Our first stop is Merzouga where we drive off-road to visit an old eyeliner mine, then pay a visit to the nomads in their handmade woven tent, where we will learn about their way of life while drinking a berber tea.
Our next stop is the village of Khamlia, where you will enjoy the music of Gnaoua and dancing performances. The inhabitants of this village come from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger.Free time for lunch in the restaurant.
After lunch, we go for a walk in the palm trees grove, then drive a few kilometers to view the wild lake of Merzouga (also known as flamingos lake) Dinner and sleep in a hotel.
Day 3
We leave the desert after breakfast to visit the ancient town of Rissani, which is the capital of the region, and Rissani is still one of the main trading centers in the area, with a lively souk on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. After a stroll in the Rissani souk, we drive to Erfoud where we visit a workshop with fossilized marble, and then we drive through the Touroug and tinjdad palm groves, until we reach the todra gorges, where the course of the todra river cuts through the mountains, creating a high, red cliff-side canyon.
These gorges are the perfect place for rock climbers, so feel free to wander around and enjoy the scenery. We have free time for lunch at a restaurant. Then we drive to the dades valley, passing through the Boumalne dades, where we inevitably make a stop at the “monkey fingers” rock formation, and on a mountain top overlooking the dades valley. And finally, dinner and sleep in a hotel.
Day 4
After breakfast we continue our journey to the Rose valley in the town of kala mgouna, where a Rose Festival takes place every year in May. Here, the locals sell their rose products, from perfumes to rose water, rose oil, and cosmetic products.
After lunch, we drive through the Skoura palm groves and visit the Amridil Kasbah.Finally, we arrive in the town of Ouarzazate,where famous movies were filmed, and visit the taourirt kasbah. After dinner, we will stay the night in a hotel.
Day 5
On the final day, we leave to visit the famous Kasbah of ait ben Haddou, a fortified village that has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Kasbah has been featured in many movies such as: Gladiators, Alexander, The Mummy…etc., and TV series such as Game of Thrones. Then, we continue to Marrakech by driving through the tizi-n-tichka pass and the high atlas mountains. We will make stops for lunch and to take pictures at interesting places. Finally, we will drop you at the airport or at your accommodation in marrakech. This is the end of a 5-days desert tour to marrakech.
