Nshongi Camp is situated in the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park; in Rushaga. It is located close to the starting point of mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The lodge has got bandas built with typically local materials of mud bricks, grass thatched roofs, a paraffin lamp for light and a campsite.
They provide accommodation in 6 traditional African bandas with hot showers overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Be informed there’s no electricity at the camp, which actually gives you a real jungle experience with sounds of the wilderness heard from a nearby swamp at night.

Nshongi Camp is one of the best budget accommodation places in Rushaga sector of Bwindi. You are awoken with the early morning chants of birds and might also get frequent visits from monkeys during your stay at the lodge.
With your own tent, camping at Nshongi Camp ranges from $4 to $27 depending on occupancy, meal plan and many more factors. They provide amenities like airstrip pickups, internet, security, laundry services, bar, lounge and so much more.
Nshongi Camp also offers tourists several activities besides gorilla trekking and some of these include tea plantation tours, bird watching and entertainment from a local group called Rushaga Young Stars, who do local traditional dances and music for visitors.

Gorilla Trekking
Most tourists who sleep at Nshongi Camp have gorilla trekking as their main activity in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Gorilla trekking takes about 3-7 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family and the pace of the trekkers. Once you locate a gorilla family, you are given an hour of observation, bonding and photography before returning to the starting point.
Gorilla habituation
Gorilla habituation can best be described as the process of making mountain gorillas used to human presence. This usually takes a period of 2-3 years before gorillas under go a mocking exercise which they have to pass before they are availed for gorilla trekking. Gorilla habituation gives tourists a chance of being in the presence of mountain gorillas for four hours unlike the normal gorilla trekking experience where you are given only 1 hour.
Gorilla permits
Uganda gorilla permits cost $700 per person in Uganda for the normal gorilla trekking and $1500 for gorilla habituation. Permits should always be booked in advance especially in the peak season to avoid disappointment as they are sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.
