When you go to Southwest Kenya, just think of Governors II Moran Camp, which is related to Lake Victoria Northeast Mfangano Island Camp Lodge, Governors Camp Masai Mara, Governors Private Camp Masai Mara, Little Governors Camp Masai Mara, and Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in the Virunga Mountains.
It is hosted within our very own Masai Mara, a delightful reserve with a great climate and extremely rich wildlife, notably during the migration herds, most active during the dry season when there is a shortage of pasture and water.
Access to Governors II Moran Camp is by light aircraft, which lands at Governors Airstrip, where you will be picked up by a tour guide in a safari vehicle.
This drive is about fifteen minutes into the camp, and all connecting transport is included. These services are available from Nairobi, Mombasa, Diani, Amboseli, Meru, Nanyuki, Naivasha, Laikipia, and Serengeti.
It is essential to note that from the nearby Musiara Airstrip, you first cross plains dotted with animals before entering the riverine forest where the camp is situated.
The first building you encounter contains the reception area and a well-stocked gift shop.
If you look straight down the pathway leading to the central lawn, you’ll find an open lounge tent on your left, with tables spread across the grass.
Don’t ask any more questions; instead, take a seat and enjoy the sounds of various wild species in the Masai Mara.
The camp is an old residence established in 1972 by the Grammaticas family.
Since then, they have adhered to tradition, abandoning the keys of the western piano (once pioneers of photographic safaris) and employing numerous local people from the surrounding area, which reflects their love and commitment to giving back to the community.
Governors Camp comprises ten tents, each surrounded by a river on either side.
These tents feature sturdy natural wood beds, spacious tiled bathrooms, a standby generator, and a restaurant offering options for vegetarians and other dietary preferences, provided you mention them at the time of booking.
You can’t leave the camp without embarking on a game drive in a safari vehicle, enjoying an incredible bush meal, or going bushwalking.
Adventures keep popping up every day you spend in this area.
Note: Adult supervision is essential as the area is unfenced and could be dangerous for kids if left alone.
The Masai Mara premises are easily accessible by air transport from Nairobi, although road transport is also an option if the guest is interested in making stopovers in local communities, where the heartbeat of African drums can be felt through participating in their dances and playing many local games with them if time allows.
Book with Governors II Moran Camp, and you won’t regret it.
