Gorilla Mist Camp – Immerse in Bwindi’s Natural Splendor

Gorilla Mist Camp is located in the southwestern part of Uganda, specifically in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the Kyaguriro, Oruzogo, and Bitukura mountain gorilla families.

The lodge is one of the best mid-range options for trekking mountain gorillas in Ruhija or Buhoma.

The lodge comprises eight comfortable, well-furnished rooms, including singles, twins, and double rooms.

All rooms are spacious and self-contained, featuring a private balcony overlooking the forest.

How to Get There

Gorilla Mist Camp

Gorilla Mist Camp can be reached from Kampala by road in a 9-10 hour drive covering 405 kilometers.

Alternatively, you can take a chartered flight from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield, which takes about 2 and a half hours to reach Kihihi Airstrip.

From there, it’s a short drive to the lodge.

Activities near Gorilla Mist Camp

  • Gorilla Trekking: This is the most common tourist activity in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The duration of the trek can range from 30 minutes to 7 hours, depending on the location and movement of mountain gorillas. Once you find the gorilla family you’re trekking, you’ll have an hour to observe them.
  • Village Walks: You can arrange village walks with the lodge staff in advance. These walks may include visits to a local traditional healer who uses local herbs for various ailments, a local school, a local beer brewery to learn how banana beer is made, and interactions with the Batwa people, the original inhabitants of Bwindi National Park. You can also enjoy African music and dance performances by children from an orphanage.
  • Bird Watching: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home to over 345 recorded bird species, with 25 highly endemic forest Albertine species. Birdwatchers can spot various species, including the banded prinia, strange weaver, brown-chested alethe, slender-billed greenbul, grey cuckoo shrike, yellow-streaked greenbul, white-starred robin, mountain illadopsis, and white-browed crombec, among others.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, located in the southwestern part of Uganda, is home to over half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas and more than 351 recorded bird species, some of which are endemic to the area.

The park is divided into four sectors: Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo, and Buhoma.
