Broadbill Forest Camp – A Rustic Retreat in Bwindi’s Ruhija Sector

Broadbill Forest Camp is located in Bwindi National Park, home to half of the mountain gorilla population.

This park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, not only houses mountain gorillas but also various other primate species, including chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and more.

There are over 15 mountain gorilla families available for trekking in the park.

Broadbill Forest Camp is a budget-friendly accommodation situated in the Ruhija sector of the park.

The camp derives its name from the African green broadbill, a bird commonly spotted in this region of Bwindi.

Accommodation at Broadbill Forest Camp consists of tents placed on raised wooden platforms with grass-thatched roofs, designed to be eco-friendly.

There are four self-contained safari tents, each equipped with a comfortable bed and hot showers.

In the evenings, a fire is lit at the fireplace where you can relax and share your daily experiences.

The main lodge building houses a well-stocked bar with a variety of soft and alcoholic drinks.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to over 300 species of birds, with 25 restricted range species and 23 endemic to the Albertine region.

Some examples of birds found in Bwindi include Grauer’s thrush warbler, Shelley’s crimson wing, Chapin’s flycatcher, African green broadbill, short-tailed warbler, African giant swallowtail, pink-footed puffback, yellow-rumped tinkerbird, crested guinea fowl, and Ruwenzori batis, among others.

Understanding the Minimum Age Requirement for Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking is the most popular activity in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

A maximum of eight people are allowed to visit a gorilla family per day, and participants must be over 15 years old and free from communicable diseases like flu or cough.

Once the group locates the gorilla family, you are given an hour to observe and take photos.

Booking Gorilla Permits

Uganda gorilla permits cost $700 per person, while gorilla habituation permits cost $1500 per person.

It is essential to purchase permits well in advance, preferably 3-6 months before your planned travel date to ensure availability for mountain gorilla trekking.
