Birdnest @ Bunyonyi Resort was among the first buildings in Lake Bunyonyi; it all started when Francis Kalemera visited the area about 40 years ago and loved the Lake so much prompting him to start building around 1963. His main purpose of building was to make his home but tourists constantly asked to stay there.
Accommodation at the lodge is provided in well furnished self contained rooms overlooking the Lake, the restaurant serves both local and international cuisines prepared by long experienced chefs and the well stocked serves several drinks.
The swimming pool at the lodge is offered free of charge for overnight visitors and day visitors pay 10,000 Ugx for day visitors. Towels are always provided by the pool attendant and there’s also a pool table on the side of the pool.
One of the main activities offered at the lodge are canoe rides and this rides are free for overnight guests, the pool attendant will provide you will life jackets and peddles. The motor boats are also available for hire where you can take 2-3 hours ride exploring Lake Bunyonyi islands.
Nature guided walks can be taken at lake Bunyonyi and bird nest is one of the best starting points for nature walks or even extended hiking for those who want to sweat a little. Guides are available to take you for walks. Besides the nature walk, you can go visit the blacksmith at Bukona village where you can engage in daily activities done by the locals or buy some souvenirs to take back home for remembrance.
Bird enthusiasts can come along with binoculars to explore the splendid lake Bunyonyi which is home to 200 species of birds recorded in fact the Lake derives its name from a local word translated to mean “little” birds. Some of the common bird species seen include;
