Mount Beiga is a dormant volcano standing on an elevation of 2790 meters at Kauzi Beiga national park in Democratic Republic of Congo. This is the second highest peak within the park after mount Kauzi in which the park name was derived from combining names of the two mountains.
Mount Beiga can be climbed within 6 hours ascending and descending, there are three trails established that is; Mbayo trail, Tshiabati waterfalls trail and Murais musisi walking trail. Each of the trails will provide a unique experience while at Mount Beiga.
The best time for visiting mount Beiga should be during the dry months of January and February when the weather is favorable for hiking. There is no accommodation within the park except a campsite but you will be required to carry your own camping gear.
Kauzi Beiga national park
Mount Kauzi is found within Kauzi Beiga national park that is home to the largest population of lowland gorillas remaining in the world. UNESCO recognized the park as a world heritage site in 1980
Lowland gorilla trekking
There are three habituated gorilla families tourists can visit while at Kauzi Beiga national park, a group of only eight tourists will be allowed to visit each gorilla family in a day. You start gorilla trekking early morning and once you find the group you will be able to interact for one hour while taking photos and observing their behaviors.
The best time for trekking lowland gorillas is during the dry season when the roads to the park and trekking trials are in good condition but nevertheless, due to the weather of Congo it can rain even during the dry season so tourists should carry water proof hiking boots, rain coats, jackets, warm long-sleeved clothes, sand screen, hat, insect repellents an so much more. Gorilla trekking permits must also be booked in advance prior to trekking.
