2 DAYS DJIBOUTI DISCOVERY TOUR.
Known as French-Somaliland (1896-1967) and French Territory of Afars andIssas (1967-77), the nation gained its independence from France on 27 June 1977. The capital, Djibouti, is built atop coral reefs that protrude into the southern mouth of the Gulf. Other major towns are Obock, Tadjoura, Ali Sabieh, Arta, and Dikhil.
The country’s littoral character masks the country’s regional and geopolitical significance. Its capital is home to a state-of-the-art deepwater port, which handles traffic in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea and houses a French naval station. It is also the railway hub for the country’s only line, which serves neighboring Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
Start your 2-day excursion in the capital city of Djibouti City, where you’ll stay for the night at Camp Abbé. During your stay, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the unique culture of the Afar people, and you’ll wake up to stunning landscapes and panoramic views. You’ll also have the chance to visit the highest point in Africa, as well as the lowest point.
Day 1
In the morning, we will leave for Lake Abbé, passing through the Grand Bara desert and the Petit Barra desert. We will stop in Dikhil for lunch before reaching Lake Abbe, where you will spend the night at the Tourist Camp, where you will be able to enjoy the stunning scenery at sunset. The Tourist Camp is a settlement made up of traditional African huts, which are very basic in design.
Day 2
You’ll wake up early to witness the sunrise. You’ll drive to Lake Assal, Africa’s lowest point. Along the way, you’ll have a panoramic view of Canyon Adalah and the panoramic views of Goubet. Lake Abbé is full of chimneys, and you’ll be able to see nomads, flamingos, and Hot Springs on your walking tour to the lake. The area’s geology is particularly interesting.
The big salt field at Lake Assal makes you feel like you are walking in the middle of nowhere. The color of the water changes from time to time due to the sun reflecting off the salt. The next stop on the tour is Djibouti city, where you will spend the night. The tour can be picked up at the hotel or at The Airport, and you will be dropped off at the hotel if you are to stay any longer or The Airport to catch your flight back home.
