2 DAYS TO CALANDULA FALLS.
The Calandula falls are located on the banks of the Lucala river and is one of the highest waterfalls in Africa, dropping 101m in the process. While the waterfalls outside of Angola are not well-known yet, they are among Angola’s most impressive natural wonders. Unlike the famous African waterfalls, like In the Victoria falls, Kalandula falls are still a place of serenity. Far from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism, you can often admire and appreciate this sight on your own. Here, you can experience the true Africa.
The province of Malanje is full of attractions. The “black stones” of the Pedras Negras are a mysterious place with a fascinating history. The historical site was the site of the resistance against the Portuguese. Angola is considered to be one of the three most biodiverse countries in the world. This is especially true in Malanje. The combination of exotic plant life and rare animal species make Malanje one of the most beautiful places in Africa. Explore the tropical forest of Angola in a truly authentic way.
Day 1
Heading east from Luanda towards the interior of the country, on our long journey to Malange, we’ll make a pit-stop in the small town of Ndalatando. Here, you’ll get to experience the beauty of the country’s flora and fauna, with a visit to the botanical garden in Ndalatando, where you’ll enjoy a local lunch before heading to the picturesque Calandula falls.
We’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop along the way to take pictures. When we get to Calandula, if the weather cooperates, we’ll be able to see the falls from two angles. First, we’ll get a panoramic view of the tops of the falls against the landscape before we get a view of the falls from the base. After a short drive, we’ll be back at the hotel for dinner.
Day 2
We’ll get up early to take a look at the falls and the area around them. We’ll find this place again and then we’ll head off to Pedro Negras. On the way, we’ll pass through a small town called Cacuso. If you want, we can stop by and get a feel for the life of this town, which is located near the town of Malanje itself.
The “black stones” are the site of a rebellion against the Portuguese conquerors. Rainha Ginga was the queen of Angola at the time of the rebellion. The legends that surround this place are entwined. We will then head back to Luanda for a late lunch before dropping you off at the hotel/airport.
